4L60E Swap in

Spent yesterday morning removing the 700R from our Orange Typhoon...

Got the 4L60E (1994 case) installed ... I should have looked at the shift rod sticking out of the side of the case.... It's much longer than our stock ones..
All that's needed there is to cut it and rotate the bottom half 180 and Tig weld back up.
Not a big deal but somthing to note if anyone wants to duplicate this process...
OR I'm sure you could use your 700R selector shaft...

This week I will hook up the wiring harness off the 2000 Blazer and wire in the Speedo signal,TPS,MAP,RPM so the stock 2000 Blazer ECM can control the shifts in the 4L60E.

I hope this makes the truck drive much better as I could never get the 700R to shift where I wanted when I wanted.... and I'm not willing to go to the expense of a 4L80E yet.
This should be a cheap alternitive.

Re: 4L60E Swap in

Don't you have to pay for a HP Tuners License to use that 2000 ECM? I have a 60e in my truck and I control it with a 16179571(Stock 93 CPI) ECM.. You can use tuner pro with a E6 BBNT bin that way. Here are the tables that I've found to be important:

I think you will be happy with it though.. Mine shifts exactly where I tell it to..

For the shaft, just head to a transmission shop. The one I went to for my 8-e trans had some short ones, $20.00. For that price it's almost not worth cutting up a good one, maybe they will even take it in part trade.

Re: 4L60E Swap in

Thanks for the tips guys....

If I had more time and transmission knowledge I'd swap the input/shift rod out.. but that'd take tearing out the valve body ect... I just cut and flipped the arm... Tig'd it back up.. .took 10min.
Misses the driveshaft...
Went to move the truck off the hoist... would not go anywhere in reverse...
Rev'd it up and it pop'd and started going in reverse....?
Then went forward and fluid everywhere out of 1-2 accumulator... Great... :(
Got that put back in and all is fine now.
Anyone know exactly what inputs are needed for working just the trans off this 2000ECM?
Hoping the wire harness is weeded right.
12V hot at all times
12V key on.
Ground
VSS signal
OBD2 port
Big multiport for side of trans.
I think that's all he has setup in the harness.
I would think it'd need RPM?(But 2000's go off cam sensor or crank sensor... right)
TPS?(Can add it quickly but it's not in his setup)
Oh.... One wire for lock up... (Brake interupt)
That's alll...
I'll hook up what's there and report.

Look at your shift tables.. You will probably find they are based on TPS vs MPH.. I'm pretty sure you are going to need the TPS signal.. That should cover it though..

Re: 4L60E Swap in

From what I remember on our Turbo Jimmy.... It was RPM ... TPS.... MPH...

Not sure how to do RPM if it really needs it at this point. I think the newer 4.3's go off the Cam or Crank signal...
Tapping back in to TPS is easy.. I'll do that and hope my RPM isn't a big deal..

Thanks!

2010 Jetta TDi

I've got a 2010 TDI Cup car... I do the engine cover's for the TDI's.... Check them out..
www.smokedtailights.com

Anyhow... I'm pretty sure it's a 1994/1995 4x4 case with 2000 Guts/valvebody ect.

Using a 2000 Blazer ECM and (part of the 2000 Harness)

There would be no way for me to do the RPM signal in a 3x signal like the newer 4.3's unless I do a dual sync dizzy... That would help since I could do the cam signal a well and
make my XFI go Sequential then... that would be nice.

Thoughts? :)

Re: 4L60E Swap in

I think you can adapt a SBC Vortec timing cover to the older 4.3L block and the 3x reluctor wheel to the crank. That would probably be the cheaper route than going with a dual sync dizzy, but I also see the plus side of having a sequential system so its a toss up for me.

"Off Topic"
Are you starting to produce parts for the TDI? CAI looks rather attractive. I would've loved to get the Cup edition when I bought mine, but it was just out of my price range.

Re: 4L60E Swap in

If I were using it for more than just transmission perameters I'd swap to the 411... For sure.

Bad... I'll hook this thing up... if it doesn't end up working I'll contact you on that Dizzy as I'd like to make it a sequential setup anyhow... Smoother idle and better mpg.
Thanks!

Sounds good.

Re: 4L60E Swap in

I didn't get a chance to wire in that ECM this summer... The Actual Transmission is in... go's in/out of gear like it should...
I'm planning on getting that done in the spring... I'll let you know how it go's :)

Re: 4L60E Swap in

Final Update:

Here is the hook up guys....

Any newer year of ECM can be used.... Older one's are ok too.. this is directed to 98up.

Need OBD2 connector... HPTuners.
TPS signal input (Typical 3wire hookup)
Coolant Temp input(one wire hook up)
RPM input (off dizzy to crank sensor input on newer ECM's)
Speedo input (Two wires off Speedo Output)

So far so good on the conversion. Got it running today.
I'll have more info and tune as I go along but she shifts!
