whining torque converter???

ok i have a 92 bravada and since the day i got it, it has had a whine that im 99.999% sure that is coming from the tourque converter.

it doesn't whine in park, or in neutral, but in reverse, 1,2,d,od it will whine.

sound's like a low power steering pump.......

anyways the sound will completely disappear after 43 mph when the converter locks up.

if i keep on the gas and lightly apply the brakes to unlock the converter, the whine
re-appears, untill the coverter locks up agian.

trans works great. i changed the fluid and filter as soon as i got it, and no change.
at that time i added the stock syclone 0.470 tv boostvalve.

my question is has anyone elese ever had this happen??? is the tourque conver eating itself alive, and should i get it out of there pronto, and put in my old syclone stock converter.

Re: whining torque converter???

You know I have the same issue I think. New Coan converter but sounds like a bad power steering pump. I am going to try to run the truck without the belt to eliminate the PS pump but this is interesting.

I've seen plenty of TCS "9/11" converters that were junk, judging by the horrible results in their Datamaster logs. (RPMs going to mush, WOT stalling at 4800 RPM, not dropping any RPM on a shift, performing like a bag of shit, etc.)

Ya, it's got a Turbo
Re: whining torque converter???

My Sy has a very similar noise, except that it only "whines" when I'm moving and it seems to be throttle/load related. I can't tell if it disappears in lock-up because the faster I go the fainter it gets. If I'm cruising along in 2nd for example, and I feather the throttle (so I'm coasting on & off without really accelerating) the whine comes and goes with the load while the speed remains constant. Sounds almost like a dry P/S pump or geared timing.
It is definitely not in the engine, and doesn't seem to affect the performance of the shifts or the operation.
I've got a 9/11 convertor in this thing, which is what I bought the truck with.
