TY transmission

My Ty has 80K on it and I just got it a few months ago.I changed filter and flushed it out and put new fluid in it, with no metal in the pan.My question is how hard should it shift?When I start it up the first few shifts are HARD and real snappy,but then as it warms up it shifts soft and no snap to it.Do I need a rebuild or a cooler on it?Are these trannys hard shifting or moderate?Thanks!!!

they are supposed to shift pretty hard all the time. you do need a cooler. buy the biggest you can afford and install it.

Definition of "hard" depends on the person. Your "hard" may not be firm enough to someone else.

If you get a chance to drive someone elses, please do. Drive it similarly to yours, then it'll make more sense.

WOW!!!! What a difference.I had been reading on the boards and found my throttle cable is stretched and not opening to full throttle.But as I was messing with it I remember reading about the trans. cable adjustment.Well my cable was pulled way out.I pushed it in and opened to full throttle and its made a huge difference.MUCH FIRMER SHIFTS and thru all the gears.Amazing how such a simple overlooked thing can make SUCH a difference.

When I first got my Ty, it had been done the same way. Previous owner thought the shifts were too firm and had manually pulled the TV cable adjuster almost all the way out. Unfortunately, he burned the 3-4 clutches doing so.
