TH400 swap

Hi guys, My org tranny is almost dead. Can't afford 4L80E/85E, so was thinking about going for something more solid than stock 700. I'm talking about good old TH400. What are the problems with bolting it up ? What else needs to be changed along ? I think I will be upgrading a turbo also, but still will be below 450 HP for sure.

I was thinking about guys from ATI Racing, what do you guys think ?

TH400 swap

The problem with the TH400 is it's essentially 80% of what you need for a 4L80E swap. It's not a budget swap. The expensive pieces (32spl TC input or modified 400 output, new driveshaft and propshaft, new or modified crossmember) are all still there, and unlike the 4L80 your chances of grabbing one and using it asis go way down.

I think you'll find at that power level you will be better off dealing with what you've got, getting another known good 4L60, or looking at an aftermarket 4L60E as a few folks have done.

That's a lot of stuff to get around. I think you are right. First I'm going to try to rebuild my stock one. It lasted 24 years, so it should be good for few more when done properly.
