temperature lever stuck

the temperature lever is stuck on my truck! i dont think its called a temp lever, but it the thing that you slide up and it goes into the red zone making the interior warm, or down into the blue zone to make the interior cool. better explanation? ok, good. well anyway, it's really hard to move now, and it wont go to the top and stay there, and it wont go to the bottom and stay there. you can force it down, but then it pops right back to the middle again. i took the dash apart and tried dicking around with it but no luck... any one else have the same problem and manage to fix it???

mr. death, there is a bushing on each side of the lever. this allows the rod to stay in place on the housing and also to make it slide up and down easy. make sure they are in there. also check the end of the cable at the heater. take it off and see it it moves freely.
