Speedo cable malfunction?

Hey guys, i didn't know if anyone else has had this problem, but my speedo keeps going in and out. It will read one second and go out the next.

Is that the speedo cable you think? Can i just replace the cable?

If its for a Sy or Ty let us know if you can find a replacement one, since they didn't use them, the speedometer is electronic

There is a speed sensor on thre tail shaft of the T-case. Make sure that the connector is tight. Next
step would be to replace the speed sensor, after that it may be an issue with the speedo itself. :dunno:

I've been through that along with a nasty grinding noise behind the cluster in my ty.
It eventually stopped.

Mine would stop once in a while. I just whacked the dash with my hand and it started working again.

another idea is check the connector at the DRAC possibly loose or nor plugged in all the way

Where is the DRAC located. I am seeing a similar issue on occasion. I will check the sensor at the transfer case, but want to check the DRAC location as well. If the VSS is bad will it throw a code or affect performance?

It's bolted to the top of the ECU. It's a white box.

Thank you. I checked the VSS connector and it was wet with a coating of transmission fluid. Strangely enough the seal is dry. I cleaned it up and will keep everyone posted. I wonder if fliud is leaking through the VSS itself.

I had a vehicle that I ended up teolacing it every 20 to 40K, I was always just take out the old one and plug in the new one.

I think it was more of a bad design issue, since it didn't seem to mater if it was OEM or aftermarket. You would think they'd mount the sensor up around 11 or 12 o'clock instead of down low, where they were always exposed to oil
