shifter button

shifter button wont pop up unless its in park it can go from 1st to park with out useing the button ? what happend , is there a spring in there?

I'd like to know also because mine stopped popping up a good while ago unless it's in park.

mine did this and i pulled the console off and lubed up the return parts with some wd40 and it fixed it.
