Front Diff ?

My front diff is leaking, is it easier to just get a jyard piece or order all the seals and replace them? I used the search function, lots of good info on which diffs work and whatnot.

depends on what part is leaking. the case halfs only use RTV. the only seals are on the axels.

John, it seems to be leaking from the driver side seal, and maybe the input shaft seal (but that might just be fluid making its way back while driving) can the seals be replaced w/o removing the diff, if so whats envolved. I'm assuming you need to remove the axles and axle tubes.

to replace the axel seals is easy.(no you dont have to pull the diff) just pull the cv shaft and pull the axel out. then replace the seal.. the drivers or pass side seals can be done really easy. and no you dont have to pull the tube on the pass side... just the axel.

it is held in by an internal snap ring. so just have to yank/pry them out.

John, are the seals available from the dealer? are they available from say autozone?

Thanks for the help John, BTW I just went to the dealer and bought both axle seals and the pinion seal w/deflector all for $26.36.

If anyone needs part #'s just let me know

those are dealer prices, you can probably get them cheaper at gmpartsdirect.com but you have to wait. The dealer will have these in by tomorow.

Actually, I just checked gmpartsdirect.com and they kill you on the S&H, it was actually about $3 more. I guess on small stuff it's better to run over to the dealer.
