Clunking noise

so just pulled up from my drive way coming from work and heard this strange clunking noise 3 times from the front taking a slow turn can it be an axle or front diff that my be bad?

I agree. I think I just put a jack underneath next to them and pried a little on the cross member and could see it.

Also made a similar noise when shifting from first to second gear is this from the same problem?

Yes I think it would. It was 10 years ago for me, but remember it cluncked over bumps and around corners. The cross member just kind of floats up and down when nothing is holding it. I think the jolt could make it clunk shifting. I would change them anyway, they are cheap and not really hard to change.
