I was wondering if that was a quote from someone else (email from DaveP or something?). I found Dave's post in the list archive with your second post in it, but I was just wondering if there really was a way to do it without cutting any factory wiring, like this first post mentioned...

Thanks for the reply. I have a solid understanding of automotive electrical
system theory, and the way this circuit is configured, I can't believe it can
work. You confirmed it. Thanks.
Corvette from 87-up uses a similar probe in a plastic tank. But it utilizes a
module that interprets changes in resistance to ground (through the coolant)
to do the actual 'switching' of the bulb. Level too low = 50K Ohms and above.
Level OK= 10K Ohms and below. I think GM just screwed up, and forgot to
incorporate the module. Not hard to imagine this could happen on a
limited-production vehicle like ours. When the preproduction engineering was
reviewed, this detail got overlooked.
If there's any interest, I'll come up with a p/n and a schematic for
installation. It can be done at the 3-pin connector next to the brake
booster, without cutting any original wiring.
