Boost controllers

anyone use the msbc from inovative turbo looks pretty cool although I have no idea how to rig up the shift function on our trucks.

I talked to BG today on the new 50# ultimate update and started brousing the net. I guess he is still tinkering with the boost control on it. I wish I would have paid more attention to why there was a problem I was sending out work orders and giving some one some sign language at the same time, typical cube rat life.

The msbc has some cool features. The hks stuff is way overpriced

Could someone explain this more clearly to me when it talks about using boost in "stages"...are they talking about different gears? Also, what sort of things does this bring to the table that we couldn't get out of just using the Ultimate or 50# Ultimate once many of us go PT&E setup.

Thanks guys, i'm just trying to learn.

Boost control through the chip will be available in the 50# stuff sooner or later. Here's the story..

The PTE setup uses a high boost actuator, so base boost is 15-16psi. The stock setup uses an actuator so the base boost is ~12psi, and it is very prone to overboost & spike. Because of these differences, the 50# chip boost control calibration needs to be MUCH different than the regular Ultimate chip setup. I've had 3 test trucks for the 50s.. Opie's, who's truck has had issues for much of the time, my old Typhoon, which had a stock turbo (couldn't do boost control testing).. and Jerry's Syclone. Both Opie's Ty and Jerry's Sy are up and running now. Once we start doing some more tuning (as the weather gets better) I should have some more boost control data to go on. The existing calibrations have boost control tables set as 'guesstimates', which is one reason it is in the beta stage. The next version should include boost control & wideband 02 datalogging code.

So it's not that boost control isn't possible, it's just that I've been forced to spend my time on the fueling calibration up til now.

Another issue is the fact that the PTE setups are sensitive to back pressure, and I need to determine what kind of setup to base the calibration on. Opie's Ty has a cat & full exhaust; his exhaust is so restrictive, the burnt gases need to turn sideways to get out. So on his truck, we'll open the dump before beginning testing. Jerry's Sy has a PTE cat & ATR exhaust. We'll probably pull the cat on it soon, since emissions testing is done on it. Anyways, for now, the plan is to have the least backpressure present for the testing.

Also, FWIW, Opie's truck is running an SMC alky setup, and Jerry's will have a custom water/alky setup soon too.

Im going with the PTE52 and the atr cat back. Brian if you have a chip that is working descent Ill try it on my truck.

Mike I need to call you and ask you about that boost controller. I may "may" have it in the budget for this month.
