Accumulator pistons

Is it dumb to block them off, theones in the case thfat is. I was told its good to pull the spring and put another piston in upside down. I am going to take the valve body off tomorrow and put in a SYTY vlave body and was thinking should I leave that like that. Any help is appreciated.

dont do it. it will shift too hard and break hard parts. leave it alone. if you must do something get the pinless ones and go with them and leave the stock springs in the stock configuration.

x2. I'm of the mind the accumulator block has broken more parts than anything else.
The stock accumulator springs are just fine in terms of shift firmness.

You can block the 4th accumulator but ONLY that one. The 3rd accumulator is part of the servo lineup that you can access from the side of the case. Leave that one alone.
2nd accumulator is the little "hat" that comes off with 3 bolts. Also leave that one alone. Pinless piston in the 2nd accumulator and the aux valvebody do fine. Keep those springs in the correct loaction though. The Aux valvebody's spring is slightly longer if you sit it next to your 2nd accumulator spring.
The accumulators function exactly like an expansion tank on your hot water heater. Keeps the pipes from banging and breaking. Same thing in the trans. Keeps the parts from banging and breaking.

Yeah, I guess Ill put them back in. I didnt notice a difference in spring length though. This is my fourth tranny build and can honestly say ive had them all lined up next to each other and never noticed a single difference. Im going to pull the vlave body off tonight and hopefully get it all back together tonight as well but it will probably be tomorrow.

When they are built, sometimes shops throw everything in the parts washer at the same time and springs get mixed up or fall to the bottom of the tank. When they come up short, they'll just throw a 2nd accumulator spring in there. It makes the garage shift softer and when you rock out of a snow bank softer. The stock aux valvebody spring has the best feel in my opinion. I like using a pinless piston in the aux valvebody so you don't have to worry about leaks from the pin shaft. If that piston leaks around the shaft, you can burn up the forwards.

FWIW I tried the flipping/blocking deal on the accumes.....and I hated it. Even at light throttle the hard parts get banged around pretty bad and I knew if I left it that way stuff would get torn up even without boost launches. I un-blocked and un-flipped the accumes after maybe 5 miles of usage.
