Help! Need new/rebuilt or a rebuilder of the EHCU unit. Dealer says codes show that EHCU is bad. Considered the defeat kit, but I like the ABS, especially if a newer vehicle stops in front of me, I like to stop as quickly as he does. And here in the east, with snow and ice in the winter, ABS is really a must. Hope you have some leads.

I hope it is to, Not smart to drive A low mile truck in the snow. Hope your ABS stays broke so you leave it in the garage till the weather get nice agin. Hate reading post like this..

Not sure what all the fuss is about - the Syclone is great in snow! And still looks like new - not one dent, not one ding, and the interior is perfect.

Your not going to stop as fast as any new car.

The ABS in these trucks were the "first go" at ABS by GMC ... they are poor excuses, very CAVEMAN to say the least. Thats why most people ditch it ---

Have you driven it before in the snow? Man, that is what they make DD for. Do yourself a favor, put that truck away in a garage if that is the true mileage. Just my:2cents:

Yes, I've driven it in snow (Phila area) just about every year since I bought it in '91. I do hose off the underside of fenders and especially the cladding seams. And yes, that's the true mileage.

But back to the original question - who can rebuild this ABS thing - or where can I find one?

Man, that is great! Congrats, if you ever want to sale, give me a ring. I am looking for a lower mileage one.
Anyways, if I am not mistaken, the ABS in the syclone is similar to the ABS int he 92 typhoon.
You might want to look for a unit from one. I have seen a couple on here in the parts section. Search in there, and see what you get. Also, might want to get the part number you need, and see what other vehicles carried it to get another unit:tup:

What is the EHCU? I have the ABS unit. I just did ABS delete and have no need for it if you are looking to purchase a used one.

EHCU stands for electro-hydraulic control unit. Seems to be nomenclature specific for the early GM/Kelsey Hayes unit. If you "Google" EHCU, you'll see it.

And as an update, have found two sources who say they can rebuild this unit for around $175.00. We'll see.

I predict that the ABS units in our trucks have caused more accidents than they have prevented. Uneven or bumpy roads cause the unit to think that the wheels are locked up and activate the ABS which degrades the breaking power causing what should have taken 50 feet to stop become 100. It happened in my truck, and if you are not careful (or smart by removing it) it will happen in yours. Being also in the Philly area, I know the roads are crap. Unplug the ABS. It is more mental stopping ability than it is physical.

While I could appreciate wanting to keep a low-mile truck together and in great shape, there do seem to be strong arguments against the early version of Kelsy-Hayes 4WAL. Read here.
